Meet Angela Dawn Middleton, MD, MPH, MSCP

As founder and lead physician at Next Chapter, Dr. Middleton brings her patients more than 20 years of experience as a family medicine physician, along with certification through The Menopause Society. This unique combination of specialties allows her to diagnose and treat issues related to peri- and post-menopause, while understanding their effects on and relationship to the entire body.

A native of Kingsport, TN, Dr. Middleton attended Vanderbilt University and graduated with a BA in Sociology. She then attended MCV/VCU, where she earned her MPH (1999) and MD (2003). She completed a family medicine residency through Chesterfield Family Practice, training out of Chippenham and Johnston-Willis Hospitals.

In 2025, after years of practice in family medicine, Dr. Middleton recognized a need for services focused on peri- and post-menopause care. She launched Next Chapter to fill that gap in care for women experiencing issues in these areas.

Dr. Middleton is married to Ryan Mitchell, and they have four children. As a family, they are actively engaged in endeavors to improve the quality of life for those less fortunate and underserved by society. Organizations they support include FeedMore, Cristo Rey Richmond, Caritas, and The Doorways. They also avidly support medical research, scholarship, and efforts that help bridge gaps in medical care for those of limited financial means.
